Flood Meetings & More Discussed in Recovery Update

Those registered for the Flood Recovery E-mail Newsletter will have received updates yesterday.

One highlight was the next Boundary Flood Recovery Update Meeting, which won’t be held at Grand Forks Secondary School like it’s predecessors. Instead, two community meetings are being held at the River Valley Community Church on December 13. A South Ruckle residents-only meeting starts at 5:00PM to discuss neighbourhood specific issues. Another meeting at 6:00PM is for all residents and the agenda includes general updates on projects and grant applications, winter housing, infrastructure repair and more.

Housing was another highlight as 13 households are currently in the hotel/motel program. As of last week there were six families in the hotel/motel program, and 41 uninhabited properties. Also, at least 20 households remain in RVs on their properties as they want to stay close to home.

A financial literacy series is being developed to support flood impacted residents with financial planning. Inspections of downtown pipes are underway and any flood damage will be repaired to pre-existing conditions. Case Managers are actively contacting flood survivors, and you’re urged to wait to be contacted. There’s also a support line for residents who need to talk. There will be more on this story to come.
