A Nelson councilor expects a possible bylaw banning plastic grocery bags to come up for debate this year.
Anna Purcell is speaking as downtown business owners and residents join the call for the elimination of the single-use plastic bags.
She says unless major concerns are raised she’s in support of the idea and welcomes ongoing discussion.
Purcell says she expects to use a proposed bylaw in Victoria as a guide to moving forward with a ban in Nelson which would be business-friendly and include a possible phased-in approach.
