Zellstoff Celgar in Castlegar is undergoing it’s annual shutdown for maintenance.
It officially began Monday and will last until April 14th.
This is required every year to allow inspections on major pieces of equipment and repair any deficiencies.
Crews will be giving a lot of focus to the digester and about $1 million will go towards piping replacement for the machine.
The shutdown will be good for the local economy as 500 additional people will be on site and a significant amount of material and services will be procured from businesses and contractors.
