GF fire crews battle commercial structure fire

Grand Forks Fire and Rescue spent about three hours at a structure fire this morning. The call came in at 6:00AM regarding a commercial structure fire on Donaldson Drive, and approximately 22 personnel and four apparatus were on scene until about 9:00AM.

Deputy Fire Chief George Seigler explains:

“Basically we had a fire that was self-venting at the rear of the building. We protected the exposures of that building and also of the hotel next door to it and sent a crew inside to extinguish the scene of the fire.”

Seigler says the damage was extensive.

“Unfortunately the damage, I mean it’s a metal Quonset hut, and unfortunately the damage is so extensive that the business will be out of operations for quite some time.”

The motel next door remained smoke and fire free. Nobody was inside the building when the fire occurred, and an investigation takes place tomorrow afternoon. Fire crews also responded to an allergic reaction at the high-school shortly after.
