A funding opportunity for West Boundary area schools and non-profits! Part of the West Boundary Community Forest’s mandates are putting profits back into the community, and $42,000 dollars is available in total this year.
“The Forest is an area based tenure, we have a cut of 23,000 cubic metres, so it’s a forest land that’s locally managed and we have two shareholders: The City of Greenwood and the Village of Midway.” Explains Director Ross Elliot. “It’s a fairly good thing for the local area, like I said it’s locally managed and people have a say in what’s happening out in the forest.”
Elliot says the last two years saw even more funding:
“All together just in the last 2 years we’ve given out $96,000, but that was because it was based on…. We didn’t start logging until 3 years ago so we were catching up to some funding, and we give out to basically all non-profits in the West Boundary, basically Area E in the RDKB.”
Elliot estimates they’ve dispersed funds to about 25 organizations so far. The funds include $2000 for scholarships, $10,000 towards trails and recreation, plus an additional $30,000.
