GF Library Reaches Fundraising Goal

Successful fundraising efforts were revealed at the Grand Forks and District Public Library’s annual general meeting this week. Library Director Cari Lynn Gawletz says the fundraising goal for bathroom renovations was reached:

“They’re not very private, they’re not very safe and they’re not all accessible. So when we move towards the non-gendered, single-user, fully accessible washrooms we solve all of those problems and we make it a more comfortable place for everyone to use in the community.”

In total $84,000 was raised for the project. Gawletz says that’s not all that’s in store:

“Our phase two that we’ll be presenting to council next week and hopefully getting approval for, is building a ramp to our meeting room door so that when we rent out our meeting room after hours it’s still accessible for people.”

Gawletz adds they’ve also applied for some grants as projects tend to go over budget. She says the job will be open for bid within the next couple of weeks, and they hope to start renovations within the next couple of months.
