Ecosystem restoration burn planned near Midway

The Southeast Fire Centre says an ecosystem restoration burn is being conducted in the West Boundary. Pre-burning and preparations could begin as early as today, April 17th, and smoke may be visible from Highway 3. Some goals are to rejuvenate the shrub and grass layer, improve biodiversity for the area, and reduce dead and combustible material. The 36-hectare burn is about 7 kilometers North of Midway in the Centre Hill/Ingram Creek area, and will tie into a 27-hectare prescribed burn completed there last fall. Smoke may be visible along the West Boundary.
