As Prevention of Violence Against Women Week gets underway a local support centre is speaking out.
The Kootenai Community Centre in Creston offers emergency support for women and families in need of safety and guidance.
Support worker Temeeka Guy says they see about 250 clients each year.
She says the numbers fluctuate seasonally with a decrease during colder months.
Statistically BC has the highest rate of domestic violence resulting in death in Canada.
