The Chair of the Kootenay Columbia school board expects a proposal to charge students an annual school bus fee will be approved later this month.
This as SD 20 struggles to address another big deficit.
Teri Ferworn says a $200 per year fee per student who rides the bus would generate a third of their $750,000 shortfall.
She says some of the line items in their budget reductions highlight just how hard things have become over the years because of the government’s enrolment-based funding.
Meanwhile Ferworn says the board, teachers, trustees, CUPE and parents are all committed to protesting- through a 10-week local media campaign- the government’s chronic under-funding of public education.
