Founders Day set to return to Lions Park

Founders Day 2019 takes over Greenwood’s Lions Park on July 13th.

Coordinator Michelle Mui explains:

“Founders Day marks our annual celebration of Canada’s smallest city. Greenwood has the smallest population of any Canadian city, and was incorporated on July 12th, 1897. So having Founders Day, and keeping this tradition alive, keeps out little city going.”

She adds the event won’t be too different from it’s predecessors as per tradition, but it will last one day this year, down from two. The theme this year is small town country folk-rock.

Mui says there will be food, vendors, and live music:

“We have some good country, folk, rock singers, a couple of bands and a couple of solo artists….”

She says last year had a good turnout:

“I think there was about 2500 people but that was over the course of a couple of days so we’d probably cut that in half.”

The event runs from 8AM to 7PM at Lions Park. A pancake breakfast kicks the day off at 8AM. A parade goes at 11AM with opening ceremonies at 11:30.
