Nelson families seeking long term rental accommodation are being squeezed out by unregulated internet-based short-term operators.
This from resident Kevin Megale who has asked the city to investigate home owners who are renting out rooms through the likes of AirBNB and VRBO.
He says these are not in compliance with city bylaws regarding properly licenced B&B’s or tourist accommodation  and offer vital rental space to savvy tourists rather than local families.
Megale says an internet search uncovered 175 local vacation rentals listed on AirBNB and yet there are only 7 long-term rentals being offered through a local search engine.
