Christina Lake clean up day returns

The 19th annual Christina Lake Cleanup Day is creeping closer! It’s held by the Christina Lake Stewardship Society and sees 50 to 70 people take part each year.

Stewardship Coordinator Brenda LaCroix says some areas are prioritized while others are avoided:

“We don’t cover water too much because the high-water is dangerous for people, and we get teams out and they do different sections so we have a map, and we allocate them different sections or they may have a favorite spot. Like some people have already registered to the area that they want to clean.”

The event runs from 10AM to 1PM this Saturday, May 25th, although you can come early; it ends with a barbecue.

She says there are 10 $100 prizes:

“These kind of clean-ups would cost our community thousands of dollars if we actually had to get somebody to go out and pick up all the garbage like this, because it’s tons. So it’s a thank-you to the community for coming out, and being great stewards, and keeping our lake area clean.”

LaCroix adds funds are courtesy of Area C Director Grace McGregor, and many people donate their prizes to a charity of their choice. Visibility vests are provided, and registration is at the nature park kiosk by the Welcome Centre.
