Castlegar residents voice parcel tax concerns

It appears some Castlegar residents are not too happy with the inclusion of a parcel tax in the city’s 2016 budget and for the next decade.

About ten residents voiced their concerns to city council in a meeting yesterday with many more in attendance.

CAO John Malcom says the levy is needed to manage and upgrade the city’s stormwater system.

The budget includes a parcel tax at 150-dollars per property this year and going forward annually for a decade.

The annual rate increases for 2016 is 4%, or $37 per homeowner.
