Council forwards Donaldson Drive cannabis store proposal to public process

Cannabis was back on Grand Forks city council’s agenda last week with the proposal of a non-medical cannabis retail store. The applicant has applied to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for the proposed location of 7500 Donaldson Drive. That location is in proximity to a community use zone: James Donaldson Park.

Councillor Chris Moslin says he’s ready to hear from the public:

“I certainly am in favor of the recommendation, we need to get this going….”

The proposed location currently houses the Warning Centre:

“We did have a lengthy discussion with the proponent earlier this morning about perhaps the pitfalls of this application, because it’s all tied in to a whole other issue…. that is none of your making….’Please don’t sidetrack us again’…. I don’t want to start it all up again, no, no” Councillor Moslin responding to Mayor Brian Taylor.

Council voted to proceed with the statutory public notice requirements for the proposed store, as recommended by staff. That means public feedback is being received until the license-recommendation is decided on, come June 24th. City council also passed a motion that evening inviting BC Housing and Whispers of Hope to discuss the future of the Warming Centre.
