Canada Day festivities to return to Grand Forks

Grand Forks is celebrating Canada Day this July 1st unlike ever before.

Events Manager Erinne Allen with the City of Grand Forks says despite fire restrictions they found a way to have fireworks:

“Retro Drive-In has a 20-foot screen and ways to do movies so I thought ‘hey let’s look into coming up with some digital fireworks’ and put it on the 20-foot screen and people can come down and enjoy it on their blankets and chairs….”

The event’s theme is “Celebrating Canadian Stereotypes” and there are a plethora activities all day long.

Allen lists some of the entertainment:

“We have the Boundary Theatre coming and doing their ‘Donna and The Dynamos’ in the afternoon we have huge Kid’s Zone plans for this year which Flippin’ Fun Gymnastics will be helping out with….”

She adds the Kids Zone will run from about 11AM to 2PM with a variety of activities including giant jenga, arts and crafts, a water-sponge fight, and more. There will also be a family scavenger hunt competition. Other entertainment that day includes karaoke, live music, and much more. A variety show of local entertainment hits City Park at 6:30PM before the digital fireworks. There will also be an Elk’s pancake breakfast that day.

Allen says the Parade runs from Dick Bartlett Park to City Park beginning at 10AM:

“There is still time to get registration in for the parade, as well as registration in for vendor booths which we will have down at City Park.”

West Boundary residents can also enjoy celebrations down at Midway’s McMynn Park beginning at 6PM. There will be food, music, and games there as well.
