Transit funding freeze lifted

Good news for our region’s public transit.

The province has changed their mind and will not go through with a funding freeze the next two years.

Regions who want to expand service from next year can apply once again through BC Transit.

And as Randy Matheson, research analyst for the RDCL explains, all our areas want and need it.

Ridership is up 10 to 20% depending on the route.

Nine different options are being considered including one more bus a day on the Nelson-Castlegar-Trail corridor, in the Slocan Valley and along the West Arm.

The Regional Transit Committee will make recommendations for BC Transit and the extra services could be in place early next year.
