Border Bruins extend Coach Clewlow’s contract

Grand Forks Border Bruins Head Coach John Clewlow’s contact has been extended by five years. It was his first year coaching last season and lead the Bruins to third place in the Neil Murdoch Division.

Coach Clewlow says it gives him faith that he can build his own team with his personal level of play, but it also means more to him than that:

“To my family and myself it’s really good for us and we have a chance to kind of settle down. From my hockey career we had one year contracts every year so getting an extended contract means we know we’re staying in one spot for a little while which is good, and this is the town we want to be in so it worked out really well for us.”

He says he learned from last season:

“I learned that coaching is a lot harder than playing, a lot more stressful, when I was a player I used to always yell at my coaches and get upset or be really happy with the coaches and then that would change right away. So I see where the players come from when they get mad at a coach or get excited with a coach, but there is a lot more that goes into it….”

The Bruins play their 50th season in the KIJHL this year as the first team in the league to reach that milestone. Clewlow says two exhibitions games will hit The Jack on September 4th and 7th, plus -fans can checkout the main selection camp starting Labour Day Weekend.
