Trail closed for grizzlies

The annual spring closure of a stretch of the Nelson-to-Salmo rail trail is now in effect because of bear activity.

The RDCK says the section from south of the Cottonwood Lake parking area to Hall Siding will be off limits until June 15th.

This encompasses the areas around Apex and Camp Busk which is heavily used by grizzly bears for spring foraging.

The aim of the closure is to help ensure public safety and reduce human exposure to the local bear population.
