Grand Forks and the Boundary received a massive downpour over this past weekend shifting the RDKB’s EOC or Emergency Operations Centre into high gear. Part of this operations centre’s team is the Grand Forks RCMP.

Detachment Commander and Media Relations Officer, Sergeant Darryl Peppler explained the role of the RCMP in emergency planning was to maintain a presence in the community, to ensure security of areas that have been evacuated, and to patrol areas with tiger dams and other flood protection systems and equipment.

There were also evacuation orders that needed to be dealt with and Sgt. Pepper said that even with an evacuation order, a home owner is not forced to leave their home. They do want to know who will be staying and leaving to notify search and rescue teams.
