Nelson schools reconfiguration plans modified

The Kootenay Lake School Board has approved modifications to the proposed reconfiguration in Nelson.

The Wildflower program would be expanded at Central School and other alternative programs would remain there.

Trustee Curtis Bendig says for example the REACH program- for kids who struggle in the traditional high school setting – would not move to LV Rogers as initially planned.

Nelson’s proposed scenario sees Trafalgar Middle School close and South Nelson Elementary rebuilt there.

Trustees are now in a 60-day “consideration” phase before any decisions can be made to close up to six schools across the district.
