Grand Forks by-election to fill vacant city council seat

Grand Forks is holding a by-election to replace a vacant council seat.

Qualified Electors can vote on Saturday, December 5, 2020 between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at The Gospel Chapel located at 7048 Donaldson Drive.

Advance voting will be held on Wednesday, November 25 between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at Gallery 2 Art Gallery located at Central and 5th Street.

Special voting will be available on Thursday, November 26th to qualified electors who are patients or staff of Phoenix Manor Retirement Home, 9:00 a.m. and 9:45 a.m, Silver Kettle Village 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., as well as at Boundary Hospital and Hardyview Lodge between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

ELECTOR REGISTRATION

The City of Grand Forks will be utilizing the Provincial Voters List as the List of Electors. If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application form available at the voting place. To register you must meet the following qualifications:

18 years of age or older on general voting day

  • Canadian citizen
  • resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration
  • resident of OR registered owner of real property in the City of Grand Forks for at least 30 days immediately
  • preceding the day of registration, and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

To register, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.

To register, non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, and proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners. Forms for these purposes are available at Grand Forks City Hall during regular business hours.
