Grand Forks driver arrested after tripling speed limit

Mounties clocked a vehicle doing 152 km/hour in a residential 50 km/hour zone on Wednesday.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., Grand Forks officers were patrolling in the Ruckle area of Grand Forks when they observed the vehicle speeding.

“Officers quickly turned around while the speeding vehicle fled and soon located the vehicle a short distance away, parked and unoccupied,” said Grand Forks Detachment Commander, Sergeant Darryl Peppler. “Unfortunately for the driver, officers got a good look at him and he left behind some personal items in his haste to get away.”

The next day officers found and arrested the 27-year-old Grand Forks man who now faces several charges related to the condition of his vehicle and for having no insurance. Mounties will also be recommending criminal charges of Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, where the driver will make his first appearance in court on June 29th.

This is a very scary and concerning display of driving, Sergeant Peppler added. This happened in a residential area where many family and kids play, ride bikes, go for walk, and to think what could have happened is very disturbing.

If anyone witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police, call the Grand Forks Detachment at 250-442-8288.
