Driver survives solo crash leaving vehicle completely mangled in Midway

After ploughing through multiple obstacles, a driver with no passengers was able to get out of his Chevrolet before being transported by BC Ambulance services for medical attention.

Crews responded to the single motor vehicle incident across from the Midway Museum at 3:24 p.m. on Sunday.

“The vehicle had left the roadway on a straight stretch of road, taken out a section of two fences, made contact with a large tree and ended up on its side,” said Midway Fire and Rescue Fire Chief Michael Daloise. “The vehicle sustained significant damage including wood and debris that had penetrated the windshield, the body panels, and the engine compartment.”

The patient sustained what appeared to be non-life-threatening according to Midway Fire and Rescue. Before crews arrived, he was being attended to by good samaritans passing by.

Nine firefighters responded to the incident with one fire engine and one utility vehicle. Emergency crews were joined by RCMP who are investigating the cause of the crash.
