Car crash in Rossland leads to the death of a pedestrian

A collision yesterday morning, in Rossland, involving a pedestrian left one man dead.

Trail and Greater District RCMP said they responded to the 1700-block of Kootenay Avenue where a 61-year-old Rossland man was pinned between a Jeep Cherokee and a parked pickup truck.

According to officers, nearby pedestrians helped to get the man free from between the two vehicles before he has transported to the hospital. The man later died in hospital.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was a 91-year-old Rossland woman and crews said she was medically assessed but was released on scene.

Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, Trail RCMP Commander, said if anyone is struggling with this incident to phone his detachment’s mainline at 250-364-2566 and they will connect you with RCMP Victim Services.

“The victim and his family are well-known within the Rossland community and this is a sudden and unexpected tragedy for all,” said Wicentowich. “The Trail RCMP Victim Services Unit is available to assist anyone who is struggling in any way with this incident.”

The incident is under investigation by Trail RCMP with help from BC RCMP Traffic Services. The BC Coroners Service was also made aware of the situation and have launched its own investigation.
