Police watchdog investigating Grand Forks incident

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is looking into an incident that took place on June 8th in Grand Forks.

The IIO said RCMP was asked to check on the wellbeing of a man in the 7500-block of 6th Street.

“Upon arrival, the man was reportedly observed to be sleeping and officers departed,” said investigators in a media release.

According to the IIO, the next day on June 9th, Emergency Health Services went to the residence and found the man unconscious and transported him to the hospital. Officials said the man died in the hospital that evening.

“The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the death.”
