Nk’Mip Creek Wildfire continues to grow

According to the BC Wildfire Service, due to the high temperatures and wind speeds, the Nk’Mip Creek wildfire continues to grow.

Crews said the fire now sits at 6,800 hectares.

“Yesterday, there was significant fire spread to the north towards McKinney Road,” said the BC Wildfire Service. “Crews and industry partners continued to work through the night to protect structures and critical infrastructure.”

Heavy equipment is still being used by firefighters to build fireguards in the area and they are working to FireSmart all nearby properties by removing the available fuels.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay said all of the Evacuation Orders and Alerts are still in effect, they include:

  • 318 addresses remain on evacuation alert in Electoral Area E/West Boundary.
  • The order and alert areas in the RDKB affect the communities of Sidley, Mount Baldy, Bridesville, and Rock Creek in Electoral Area E/West Boundary.
