Arson suspected in Grand Forks tire shop fire

Grand Forks RCMP say they believe a fire that destroyed a tire shop in the 6400 block of Highway 3 on Thursday morning was deliberately set.

The building was fully engulfed when emergency crews arrived shortly after 5 a.m.

“We believe it is suspicious,” says Sgt. Darryl Peppler. “The building was destroyed. Inside there was equipment, a vehicle, tires and other supplies. It was burnt to the ground.”

Peppler says fire crews had easy access to the building off the highway and successfully prevented it from spreading to any neighbouring structures. They were able to knock it down within about an hour, he said.

He says they have no suspects, but a forensic identification team was called in to help.

No one was injured.
