Woman stabbed in Grand Forks park

A woman is being treated for a neck wound and another woman is in custody following a stabbing in downtown Grand Forks.

RCMP say they were called just afternoon on Saturday to Gyro Park. The victim, who was stabbed with a knife, was taken to Boundary Hospital and later transferred to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, where she is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect left before police got there, but was found later that evening and arrested without incident. Police say the two women knew each other and they believe it was an isolated incident.

Raven Chan, 24, has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. She was held in custody over the weekend for a bail hearing by phone and has been remanded until Wednesday to continue the hearing.

“This was a very serious and scary incident to happen in our community,” said Sgt. Darryl Peppler. “While the victim sustained a serious injury, it could have been much worse, and we are thankful that she will make a full recovery.”

Peppler said Chan is known to police. However, she has no other criminal record in BC.
