The Zellstoff Celgar pulp mill in Castlegar had a leak in one of their storage tanks early Thursday morning.
In a statement Celgar says the leak was contained and their emergency response team responded immediately. No injuries were sustained during the incident.
It goes on to say the mill is currently building a plan to safely make repairs to the tank and bring the mill back up to full running rates. Some odor may be experienced in areas of the community depending on wind directions.
Although the odors may be unpleasant they should be of short duration and do not pose a health concern.
There are no other details at this stage as we have been unable to contact the company. It is not known for example what actually leaked nor to what extent the operations have been impacted.
