RDKB adds more properties to be evacuated

The RDKB has added more properties to the list of evacuation orders and evacuations alerts as the region heads into a wet weekend and further flooding.

RDKB board chair Linda Worley said in a media release more rain would be detrimental to the surrounding area and they are adapting as quick as they can.

“The forecast is calling for thunderstorms and heavy precipitation throughout the evening,” Worley said. “If we receive 40 to 50 millimeters of rain we could see water levels rise significantly.

“RDKB staff members are in Grand Forks to assist the city and our Boundary communities during these rapidly changing conditions.”

As of this evening the district has updated the status of evacuation orders and alerts:

Evacuation Order: One property on Jmayoff Road in rural Grand Forks, 11 properties in Manly Meadows and 10 properties at Beatrice and Division in South Johnson Flats.

Evacuation Alert: 34 addresses on 12th Street in Johnson Flats (Grand Forks) and 591 addresses from Cami to Christina Lake, excluding Greenwood and Grand Forks

RDKB has made sandbags available for those who need them at several stations throughout the district. They are asking anyone who needs them to check the list of locations.

The district said evacuation orders will be delivered to residents in the order area by emergency operations centre personnel. They suggest if you are being evacuated try to stay with family, or friends.

Emergency assistance will be provided to those affected through officials at the Red Cross.
