Manly Meadows evacuation order downgraded to alert

The RDKB regional emergency operations centre has downgraded the evacuation order for Manly Meadows to an alert.

Eight properties and 19 residents were told to leave last week due to rising waters of the Kettle River. They will now be allowed to go home but still have to be ready to go at a moment’s notice.

That leaves just one property, on Gilpin Road, on evacuation order within the RDKB and the municipalities of Grand Forks and Midway. However, another 673 addresses remain on evacuation alert.

“We continue to keep an eye on upcoming weather; it’s likely that rivers will rise again and may reach the same levels as last week,” said emergency operations centre director Mark Stephens. “To that end, people are encouraged to keep their flood protection measures in place and to stay alert.”
