Castlegar decides smoking bylaw approach

The City Of Castlegar has decided how they will carry out a new bylaw for smoking in parks, and there will be no outright ban.

Councilor Deb McIntosh says the city will take a more relaxed approach than what was originally considered.

The city will focus on voluntary compliance through education and want the initial focus of the phase-in period on areas of parks where child activity is the highest.

Education with regards to the new bylaw will come through the city’s website, social media, signage, advertising and bylaw enforcement officers.
