Pile burning planned near Grand Forks

Up to 100 piles of wood debris north of Grand Forks will be burned starting this week.

The BC Wildfire Service says it will be supporting BC Timber Sales with firefighting personnel.

This project is scheduled to start as early as Friday and will be over two sites located in the Moody Creek area west of Christina Lake and the Pass Creek area north of Grand Forks.

Smoke from this burn may be visible from Grand Forks, Greenwood and surrounding areas. Smoke may also be visible to motorists travelling along Highway 3.

The exact timing of the pile burn will depend on site, weather and venting conditions, burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for the smoke to dissipate.

The intent of the burn is to remove debris piles and help reduce fuel in the event of an unwanted wildfire, as well as to help silviculture efforts in the area.
