Used tire collection event planned for Grand Forks in May

The Tire Stewardship of BC will be hosting its annual tire collection event in Grand Forks on May 4.

Residents can drop off their old or unused tires, on or off rim, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Integra Tires, located at 283 Central Avenue.

The stewardship said in a press release that once the used tires are collected, they are recycled and turned into new, useful products, circulated back into the province’s economy.

The initiative aims to help the province prepare for the 2024 wildfire season, as tires left lying in heat can pose a fire risk and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes once rainwater is collected inside.

Those who can’t make the event can still dispose of their old tires with retailers when purchasing new ones, or they can search for a local return-to-retailer location to drop them off for free year-round.

In Grand Forks, Integra Tires is listed as the local return-to-retailer for used tires.
