Winlaw mobilizes for school meeting

There is an underlying tension and resentment in the Slocan Valley regarding the possible closure of Winlaw school.

Hundreds of people are mobilizing for protest , some of whom remember the trauma of the 1980’s when secondary grades were moved out of the community.

Eden du Pont is the chair of the local Parent Advisory Council and is expressing concern ahead of Monday night’s formal community hearing at the school.

The hearing goes at 6 pm with the community ready to argue why the well-used school should not close.

SD 8 is considering the closure option to save on long term maintenance costs.
