A fire in Greenwood this morning, near Grand Forks, has destroyed a historic church, a vacant elementary school and one home.
Greenwood Mayor, John Bolt says it is lucky no lives were lost.
“It’s a huge loss to the community,” said Bolt.
“And no injuries recorded, thank God.”
“I would like to thank the Grand Forks fire department, Greenwood and Midway, and of course our public works did an excellent job.”
The fire started around 2:30am on Southern Government Street, claiming the historic St Jude’s Anglican Church.
The church was 123 years old, built in 1901.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
