A faulty vehicle exhaust on the highway has been identified as the cause of last week’s wildfire outside of Grand Forks.
The blaze, in the Gilpin grassland, spread quickly to 224 hectares.
Karlie Shaughnessy, with the South East Fire Centre, says these types of incidents are not uncommon.
However in this case it was NOT a recreational vehicle.
Over 70 firefighters, three helicopters and four pieces of heavy equipment were deployed to fight the blaze over a four day period.
No charges will be laid against the driver and no structures were lost.
