Baseball might be the talk of the town in Grand Forks this week, but Andrew Zwicker with Boundary Country Regional Chamber of Commerce says it is bringing more than sport to town, with an economic boost.
“It’s a great event that’s been around for a long time, and it brings a lot of people into town from all over, and early in the summer, too, which is great,” said Andrew Zwicker, Interim Executive Director.
“We’re just coming out of our shoulder season into the main season.”
“It puts seats in restaurants, it puts people in beds, and it gets people downtown,”
“They’re shopping, they’re doing stuff, and on top of all that, it creates a nice vibrant atmosphere in town.”
The Grand Forks International Baseball tournament is the largest invitational baseball tournament in Canada.
Games are underway all week, with the grand final to be played at 1pm on Monday July first.
“If you are in town, it’s a great thing to check out. It’s a fun thing to watch as a tourist, and definitely help support all of our local businesses here.”
