Grand Forks RCMP have arrested a 43 year-old man believed to be involved in several firearm-related complaints.

Over the past week, Grand Forks residents have taken to social media to warn others about a man in a black truck who has allegedly pointed a shotgun at children on multiple occasions.

Police have confirmed that the complaints are substantial, with Sgt. Darryl Peppler of the Grand Forks RCMP detachment stating that they have arrested the man believed to be involved in a multitude of offences including multiple firearms offences; dangerous operation of motor vehicle; and uttering threats.

“We have been made aware recently of an individual who has been causing a lot of issues in our community. The police have been actively investigating this for the past few days, and this morning, we were able to arrest that male.”

“The multiple investigations are still very active but we want to put the public at ease for now that this male is now off the streets.”

Peppler says the suspect was taken into custody this morning (Tuesday August 27) and then transferred to the hospital for a physician’s assessment.

The incidents have created quite a buzz on social media, but Peppler wants to remind residents of the importance of reporting a crime the moment it happens.

“I know a lot of people will go to Facebook first, and from there, it has a tendency to spiral out of control. We do ask people to report to us immediately when there is a crime, work with us, and let us investigate.”

An investigation into the complaints is underway. Peppler is urging anyone who was a victim or witness to any of the incidents to contact the department to aid in the investigation.

“If people have information about this individual and did not report it for any reason, it’s not too late. Please give the RCMP detachment a call at 250-442-8288.”
