The City of Grand Forks will be helping out a municipal neighbour.
City council agreed last week (Oct. 7) to sell its old vacuum truck to the Village of Midway after the municipality expressed interest.
Mayor Everett Baker says the regional director for Midway asked if the city would do a little better than the original asking price of $40,000.
“They asked, is there something we can do to help out a little bit, that was a little bit pricey for them, I get, I understand, and the fact that we have a fire chief that once belonged to them. So, I’d like to make a recommendation that we sell them the vac truck for $30,000,” Mayor Everett Baker said.
Grand Forks Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Mike Daloise was previously the fire chief for Midway.
After some lighthearted banter, council passed the resolution to sell the truck, used for cleaning sewers.
“What’s Midway famous for?” Councillor Rod Zielinski asked.
“Yeah, we need something,” Councillor Neil Krog replied.
“Even if it’s a chunk of lava rock or something,” Zielinski said as other councillors chuckled.
