Grand Forks’ Mayor reflects on 2024

The best way to end the year is with a good news story, and that is exactly what Grand Forks Mayor Everett Baker says 2024 was and 2025 will continue to be, a healthy and growing community.

Flood mitigation continued to be a major project for the town, and it is quickly reaching the light at the end of the tunnel.

“Flood mitigation provides many opportunities for investment in our community.” said Mayor Baker.

“We have subdivisions that are starting here now, we’ve had McDonald’s that’s come, so, we’re seeing some investment from that end.”

“This is money that the developers and owners, the companies, are feeling comfortable with investing in Grand Forks.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor noted a positive shift in those looking to call Grand Forks home.

“Sometimes we vision Grand Forks as more of a senior location. I’m seeing far more young people, newly married couples, new babies, and they’re buying homes in our community,”

“Their employment is here. They’re raising their children here, so they’re not leaving and coming back when they’re 16, 17 to their home community. They’re choosing to stay here.”

Still on the cards as we roll into 2025 is the town’s boundary expansion proposal and how to advance infrastructure, so stay tuned for more headlines in the new year.

“I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from my family and from councillors to our community, we wish them a very safe holiday and a very joyous one as they spend time with family.”
