Police seeking witnesses to fatal Boxing Day head-on crash

Police are looking for witnesses to a head-on collision that killed a woman from Grand Forks and left three people seriously injured near Cranbrook on Boxing Day.

BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) officials say the crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. on December 26 along Highway 3/95 near Stropky Road when a southbound black Cadillac Escalade collision into a northbound red Honda CRV.

Police say a 64-year-old Grand Forks woman who was the passenger in the Honda CRV died in the crash, while the CRV driver and two passengers in the Cadillac Escalade were seriously injured.

“BC Highway Patrol is asking anyone who saw the events leading up to this collision to speak with us about what happened, and we are especially interested in any dash camera video,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.

“This was the second fatal collision in less than a week in the winter conditions near Cranbrook. Please, everyone, slow down and make sure you are driving sober and without any distractions.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and police have not ruled out speed or impairment as a contributing factor.
