The City of Grand Forks has unveiled the South Ruckle dike project draft design.
The design, which can be found online, will be reviewed carefully over the coming weeks by City staff. However, members of the community are also strongly encouraged to review it and submit any questions or comments to the City.
A statement from the City of Grand Forks notes that, when complete, the project will mark a major milestone in the city’s flood mitigation program.
It will provide contiguous protection on the south side of the Kettle River, from the city boundary at 62nd Avenue on the west to the city boundary behind Rockwool on the east.
Construction is slated to begin this year. The City hosted an open house for the project in July 2024 to share its schematic design. Following engineering recommendations and further technical review, staff adjusted the north-end alignment.
The revised route, according to the City, provides a greater setback from the river, optimizes resources, and improves flood protection for South Ruckle.
A civic document shows the project was 11 per cent complete as of November 2024 and that it is so far on track to stay within its $5,509,846 budget, with $604,658 spent in 2024.
Community comments or questions on the draft design can be submitted via email at [email protected].
