The BC SPCA will hire an animal protection officer to serve the West Kootenay.
Chief Prevention And Enforcement Officer Marcie Moriarty hopes to have the position filled in the near future.
She says the new officer will likely be based out of the Trail-Castlegar area but help in other areas of the province as well.
The City Of Castlegar recently created a new zoning designation for a property near the airport to be re-purposed to allow a new SPCA facility.
