The City of Grand Forks has presented their first draft budget for 2025, which includes a 6 per cent property tax hike and a 10 per cent increase to water and sewer rates.
Mayor Everett Baker says the city is looking at investing in several projects worth around $17 million in capital over the next few years, and that the tax increase is reasonable.
“The fact that we are still single digits and we’re low single digit, I’m happy and satisfied that that’s a fair taxation for our city.” said Baker.
“We’re taking on a replacement of our reservoir, we’re doing some major electrical work up in one of the divisions in Grand Forks, as well as finishing work on the dike over in South Ruckel.”
Council is hosting a public meeting on the budget next Friday, February 13 at 6pm at the City Hall.
