Doukhobor community recognized by Japanese-Canadian group

A ceremony yesterday at the Doukhobor Museum in Castlegar to recognize their contributions to the Japanese Canadians during World War II.

Museum vice-chair Vera Woykin says it’s important to remember how Japanese Canadians endured internment camps in our region during the battle.

Pastor George Takashima with the Nikkei Cultural Society of Lethbridge wanted to share the history with his group.

About 70 people attended to hear stories from the many guest speakers.
