Romanchuk retires amid investigation

The former top cop in the West Kootenay-Boundary has resigned amid an investigation into his detachment.

Supt. Nick Romanchuk went on leave Sept. 6 and then announced his retirement on Monday.

He’d been Kelowna’s police chief since 2013 and prior to that was the inspector based in Nelson.

He was also corporal in Nakusp from 1999 to 2002 and staff sergeant in Trail from 2004 to 2008.

Now we learn Abbotsford police are investigating a series of unspecified allegations against Kelowna RCMP.

No details have been released and no one has explicitly linked the investigation to Romanchuk’s departure.
