The Rock Creek fire service referendum was approved Saturday by a vote of 141 to 93.
Area E director Vicki Gee says residents were deciding whether to create a new fire protection zone in the West Boundary.
Gee concedes the tax increase could be a burden to some residents.
Turnout was 82.5 per cent, which chief elections officer Theresa Lenardon described as “huge.”
