The mayor of Castlegar says there’s some positive local news from Interior Health’s decision to privatize and centralize laundry service in Kelowna.
Castlegar will become a distribution hub for our area.
But he adds the loss of 17 laundry jobs at Nelson’s Kootenay Lake Hospital is bad news.
IH says the move will save them $35 million  over 20 years which will be put into patient care and facility upgrades. Chernoff says this region will want to see that happen.
Chernoff does not know at this stage how many jobs the distribution centre will entail.
