Grand Forks poised to sell property for hotel, seniors housing

The City of Grand Forks has a tentative deal to sell land to a developer for a hotel and seniors housing.

According to a legal ad published today, the city proposes to sell a vacant 1.1 hectare (2.7 acre) lot at 2566 Central Avenue to Kettle River Development Group Corp. for $645,000, expecting the phased construction of a hotel, seniors complex, and commercial space.

The property in question is east of Kal Tire in the city’s west end. The city has been marketing the land for over five years.

Mayor Everett Baker said council has long hoped to have a hotel built there and previously talked to several developers, but nothing materialized. They have been speaking to the current developer for more than a year, he added.

The developer is based in the Fraser Valley, but one of the partners lives in Grand Forks, Baker said.
